MUSICA DA CAMERA BRNO was founded by Martin Franze in October 1996. Until 1999 it consisted of a mixed chamber choir and a number of instrumentalists. In this incarnation it studied the works of Jan Dismas Zelenka, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Bohuslav Martinů, Leoš Janáček, and other composers, especially Czech composers of the Baroque era, and Czech choral works of the late 20th century.
In 1997, together with the ensemble Portaš, MUSICA DA CAMERA BRNO recorded a CD entitled "Czech and Moravian Carols and Christmas Songs by Adam Michna of Otradovice". The ensemble was assisted at that time by Lukáš Polák and later Martin Šujan leading the instrumental section.
In 1999 MUSICA DA CAMERA BRNO became mixed chamber choir. In 1999 it issued on CD compositions by Brno composers Veronika Košíková, Pavel Sýkora, and Vít Šujan that MdCB had previously premiered at their concerts. Also heard on the CD were the Graffe Quartet playing the 2nd String Quartet by Jarmír Dlouhý, and guitarist Petra Pochopová with cellist Jaroslav Havel, who performed Partita by Radomír Ištvan. Members of the choir were mostly students of the universites and conservatory in Brno.
In 1999 and 2000 MUSICA DA CAMERA BRNO earned two gold medals in the category of chamber choirs at the competition IUVENTUS MUNDI CANTAT in Olomouc.
In 2002 MUSICA DA CAMERA BRNO has appeared as a chamber choir consisting of twelve to fourteen vocalists, mostly music school students and graduates, all of whom share a passionate interest in ensemble singing. Since 2002, leading Czech guitarist Martin Mysliveček has joined the group for many concerts.
MUSICA DA CAMERA BRNO has performed more than one hundred concerts in the Czech Republic and abroad. Founder Martin Franze has been choirmaster since the outset; Daniela Čermáková, Hana Matušková, Jana Hrušková, Jitka Kaplová, and Štěpán Policer have also taken a hand in leading the choir.
